Longest Day Fundraiser- Minneapolis, MN

Come join us on Saturday, June 21 at the Minnesota Veterans Home, 5101 Minnehaha Avenue, Minneapolis, MN for the 9 th Annual Longest Day fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. This fundraiser is called the “Longest Day” because anyone who’s ever been affected by Alzheimer’s knows that the days can, indeed, be very long.

Our team decided at our first fundraiser in 2017 to make our event a true “Longest Day” and we puzzled from sunrise to sunset on the summer solstice and some of us have continued that tradition ever since. The event has gotten bigger every year and I’m excited about some of the surprise special events planned for this year.

Our team members always bring some amazing vintage puzzles to work, we have a great puzzle swap, and the Veterans home is very near a spectacular park and urban waterfall, Minnehaha Falls. There will also be lots of food and beverages. The absolute best part of the event is being able to spend time puzzling and socializing with puzzle pals without the time limitations of a competition (though friendly competitions are encouraged for anyone interested in that).

This year the Alzheimer’s Association set up a nationwide fundraiser so puzzle people from all over the country can participate. Here are some ideas of how you can take part:

1) Come join us in Minneapolis on Saturday, June 21. Minnesota is a great place to explore in the summer and if enough people come in from out of town, we’ll plan some activities for Sunday too (like a trip to the Big Yellow Barn).

2) Make a donation to the Minnesota event and funds will go to the Minnesota chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association: Puzzle Palooza MN. You can also join the Minnesota fundraising team by clicking that link.

3) Register a team in your area for $20 via this link 2025 The Longest Day: Puzzle For Purple and any funds you/your team raise will go to your local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

4) You can also register yourself for a $20 donation at 2025 The Longest Day: Puzzle For Purple and simply wear the purple shirt while you put together a puzzle or two in the comfort of your own home.

5) If you’d rather not fundraise, just work a puzzle and share a photo in the comments on the Facebook Longest Day event page. If you do register to fundraise, just one share on Facebook or other social media can do wonders to spread the news about the important work of the Alzheimer’s Association.

I’d love to see teams from across the country join the event and it’d be very cool to have registrations from every state. This is the first year of trying to recruit teams and I really don’t know what to expect so please let me know if you have questions or suggestions, lesliemallery@gmail.com.
